Paatya

One device at a time

Why you were signed out on another device.

Each Paatya account can be signed in on only one device at a time. This rule applies to admins and students alike. It keeps accounts safe, and it stops one student's login being shared by a whole class.

How it works

When you sign in on a new device, every other device where you were signed in is signed out. The newest sign-in always wins; it is never refused.

For example:

  1. You are signed in on your office computer.
  2. You sign in on your phone.
  3. Your office computer is signed out. The next time you click something there, you're taken back to the sign-in page.

What you'll see

On the device that was signed out, the sign-in page shows this message:

You were signed out because your account was used to sign in on another device. Only one device can be signed in at a time.

Nothing is lost. Sign in again to carry on. That signs out the other device instead.

If you did not sign in elsewhere

Someone else may know your password. Do this straight away:

  1. Sign in again.
  2. Sign out, then use Forgot password? to choose a new password. See Forgot your password.
  3. Check Settings → Activity. The Sign-ins list shows each sign-in with the time, IP address and device, so you can see where it came from. See Activity log.

Signing out after inactivity

Paatya signs you out if nobody has used the page for a while, so a screen left open isn't left signed in:

  • Admins: after 1 hour without activity, and after 12 hours at most, however active.
  • Students: after 7 days without activity, and after 30 days at most.

Clicking, typing, scrolling and a playing video all count as activity. Two minutes before an admin is signed out, a message asks Are you still there? Click Stay signed in to carry on. After signing in again, you go back to the page you were on.

For your students

Students see the same message if they sign in on a second device. Tell them this is expected: they can use any device, just one at a time.

Tip: If several people help run your academy, don't share one admin login. Invite each person as their own admin, so nobody signs anyone else out. See Other admins.
